Development of fluorescence diagnosis and photodynamic therapy in A. Tsyb Medical Radiological Research Centre

Clinical application of photodynamic therapy (PDT) and fluorescence diagnosis is being extend-ed in Russia. A. Tsyb MRRC scientists headed by Professor M. Kaplan have conducted experi-mental studies the photosensitizers (PS): Photochem, Photosens, Photolon, Photoditazin, Radachlorin, Photoran, belonged to different classes, estimated their therapeutic effectiveness for malignant tumors histologic type. From study basic mechanisms photo-chemical reactions with chlorine it became evident that de-stroyed microciculatory bed, inhibited proliferation tumor cells functional activity, induced apoptosis necrosis at early stages a development. Effects PS dosage dose light be delivered target on treatment outcome were studied. The results used support clinical focal, interstitial, systemic techniques as individual modalities or modality combined radiation therapy, surgery, chemotherapy, electrochemical lysis. Optimal exposure doses determined, indications use optimal neoplasms skin mucous membranes formulated. Due high-tech effective developed Department Fluorescence Diagnosis Pho-todynamic Therapy Medical Radiological Research Centre – branch thousands patients been cured.
